About Shanghai Pinghe School

Shanghai Pinghe School stands as a leading private K-12 institution nestled in the Jinqiao area of Pudong New Area, Shanghai. Since its founding in September 1996—fully funded by Shanghai Jinqiao (Group) Co., Ltd.—it has grown into a well-regarded boarding and day school with independent legal status, blending rigorous academics with international perspectives.

Rooted in a clear educational philosophy—“Nurturing students’ growth through critical thinking, hands-on practice, and creative exploration”—the school upholds three core pillars for its operation: high-quality teaching, global orientation, and a focus on “boutique” (refined, personalized) education. Its motto, “Upright and Courteous; Kind and Innovative,” and culture of “Ordinary yet Not Mediocre; Harmonious yet Diverse,” guide all aspects of campus life, aiming to cultivate learners who are grounded in Chinese cultural heritage while equipped to thrive as responsible global citizens.

Academically, Pinghe balances national curriculum standards with international excellence. It was a pioneer in Shanghai’s international education landscape: in September 2002, it launched the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (IBDP) for high school students, taught entirely in English. By May 2003, it became an official IBDP member school—the first in Shanghai to offer the IBDP to mainland Chinese students. Beyond the IBDP, the high school also provides AP courses, while the entire school has built a distinctive curriculum system covering growth guidance, reading literacy, traditional Chinese culture, arts & sports, and practical experience courses—ensuring holistic development.

The school’s strength lies in its exceptional faculty. In the high school division alone, around 80% of in-service teachers hold a master’s degree or higher (with 12.6% holding doctorates), and over 60% have experience studying or working abroad. This diverse, highly qualified team bridges Eastern and Western educational approaches, enriching classroom dynamics.

Pinghe’s academic outcomes speak for themselves. Graduates of its IBDP program consistently gain admission to top-tier global universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford. Notably, over 40% of each graduating class secures scholarships, reflecting both the students’ excellence and the school’s commitment to fostering academic potential.

Over the decades, Pinghe has earned key recognitions: it became one of Shanghai’s first officially certified bilingual schools in 2004, gained approval to recruit international students directly in 2007, and joined the Pinghe Education Group in 2018—solidifying its position as a benchmark for private, internationalized education in Shanghai.
